Pinjarra Awarded 2024 Country Club of the Year

Representatives from Pinjarra attended an amazing Bowls WA Awards night at Optus Stadium on 30 May, seeing all the deserving winners crowned in a sensational night for bowls in WA.

The Pinjarra Bowling & Recreation Club was thrilled to be awarded the Jim Murray Award for “2023-2024 Country Club of the Year” for the second year running. This is awarded to the most outstanding Country Club of the Year in Western Australia, based on both on-green and off-green achievements for the preceding bowls season and is a true testament and recognition for the hard work and dedication by our members and volunteers.

We also had three (3) of our club members, Brad Ball, Leon Birch and John McCooke, who were nominated as finalists for Vice Patron’s Medal most outstanding ‘Male Bowler of the Year’, with the eventual winner being Matthew Mitchell from Emu Point.

Over the last 12 months the club has had a very successful season, with standout performances in Men’s Country Week and Pennants team successes. We have also undertaken a number of growth and development projects this season, with a major success to secure funding to support the installation of new Bowling Green Canopy; a kitchen upgrade with two new commercial ovens and the purchase of outdoor furniture and balustrade shelving along the club verandah, for all our hardworking volunteers and visitors to enjoy.

Pinjarra also celebrated their 74th Anniversary event, as the oldest club in the Murray District Bowling League (MDBL). We have increased our community and social bowling events offering families, working people and business’s Barefoot Bowls and Jack Attack events; conducted bowling activities for local apprentices, graduates, primary and high school children and held our annual local Business & Sporting Club Challenge event.

As a club we work closely with the Shire of Murray and local politicians on collaborative projects and initiatives to support sporting & recreational development in the region and have an ongoing commitment to provide quality sport and leisure facilities for our members and the community.

Being awarded Country Club of the Year is a great achievement for our small, progressive club and we’re just so proud. It’s all down to our wonderful committee, members and volunteers who work hard, play well and have a vision!
