Pinjarra Men’s Championship Triples 2022-2023

Over two Sundays in November, 10 sides competed in the 2022 Men’s Championship Triples event, with 2 sections of 5 teams each playing out a round robin comp to win a place in the final.
The Allstar combo of Ron Bates, Peter Cole and Stewy Anderson, who started favourites were shortened even more after what appeared the easier side of the draw and this proved correct with them going through to the final undefeated, really only getting challenged when the Grant Watson inspired team of Bruce Greene and Derek Clitheroe found themselves 1 shot up with 1 end to play, but the classy favourites dodged that bullet.
The main talking point in the other section was that of 2nd favourites Brad Ball, John McCooke and Leon Birch who found themselves winless after Day 1 and it appeared that the final fixture in that section between Ken Barker, Colin White and Robbie Lundon vs Chris Waide, Tom Ellison and James Donald would be the deciding game, with a finals berth going to the winner. The game didn’t disappoint with scores all tied up down to the last end but the Waide led side did enough to win their way to the final.
After some lunch and cold beverages the rowdy crowd were hoping for a close finish but after 2 ends the Allstar combo found themselves 5-0 up. The crowd got behind the underdogs and with some brilliant bowls inspired by (Best on Ground) Tom Ellison, it came down to the last end with scores all square but eventually the class prevailed and the red hot favourites were crowned.
